weekend roundup

Well, I had an excellent time hanging out this weekend with Doug, Matt and Katie. We played some Guitar Hero which was quite enjoyable, although I had my @$$ handed to me lol. Then we went to Hooters and enjoyed the UFC matches on PPV. I was quite disappointed that Matt Hughes beat B.J. Penn but he did have him in a very compromising position.

The football game was good until Tiffin couldn't find the field goal anymore. I chalk it up to freshmen nerves, big game and lack of experience. If you disregard those missed kicks he has been stupendous for Alabama. The offense moved the ball well and the defense bent but did not break several times. Three interceptions in the game should have won it for us but sometimes its just not meant to be. Notre Dame had a huge letdown last week to Michigan and almost had another one this week with Michigan State. Being down at half time 31-14 they came back outscoring them 26-6 in the second half and 19-0 in the 4th quarter to pull out a shocking win. The crowd in the Michigan State stadium was utterly stunned.

I'm looking forward to this weekend for the visit by the skrubby.

Pets

Pets are wonderful things. They can sense when your down and they try to cheer you up. They can sense when your sick and will cuddle to try and make you feel better. They can tell when your joyful and will be joyful and want to play as well. The same can be said about pet owners about their pets.

I was beside myself for the first two seizures that Thor suffered. I did not know if he was having some sort of reaction and was dying or if it was a seizure. I didn't know if it was going to stop even. It was one of those helpless moments. Just like seeing Bandit so sick that Thursday night and there was nothing we could do.

Matt's little buddy, Gibbet, died today and I know what he is going through. Its a very hard thing to lose a friend you are so attached to so suddenly. Hopefully, Gibbet and Bandit are in a good place and enjoying themselves.

Affordable Mithril...

Earlier in the week or last week (who's keeping track) I got an email from some person on campus giving me information about concerts, etc. After getting six in one day I guess I just deleted them all without fully reading them (spam). Then kc pointed out one was about some Celtic music (interest meter pegged).

I was all over going to it (especially the $3 part, hence cheap mithril...heh). Because they had so many people attend last time they performed (summer equinox), they decided to have two concerts, one on Wednesday night and one on Thursday night (fall equinox). So, I went early (sick Kenny) to get four tickets (one for Vicki as well).

I sat on the bench (outside) and a uniformed army'ish guy came over and started chatting (not very interesting). Then along came Kenny (better) and kc (roommate) for their tickets (which I had). Then moments after that Doug(gie Doug) and Casey (excellent style) walked up from dinner (sabor a mexico excersion) and they had to get tickets (tickets for whom I did not procure). So, I sent them on inside to get seats while I waited for Vicki (still on bench). Thank goodness the army dude went inside as well (my ear was happy).

Vicki came up a few minutes later (parked in boonies) and we entered the recital hall (nice place). We found our way up to the rest of the crew (previously mentioned foursome with the inclusion of Teddy (spaz) and Matt (Mr. Cool himself)). So, we make our way across the isle (isn't pronounced how it is spelled) to two seats. Guess who was one seat beyond our two seats.......Mr. Army dude again (BLAH). So to keep from having him possibly annoy Vicki, I do the good thing and volunteer up my body (rofl) to shield her from army dude (annoying). I basically ignore him (kinda felt bad but dude your annoying) for the rest of the night.

We chit chatted bout Notre Dame football (Fighting Irish) and Auburn/LSU game (stolen win, aubies should be ashamed) and other stuff. Then the concert started.

I was mezmerized by the violin and the irish drum thingie (awesomeness doesn't cover it). Each and every one of them were excellent during the performance. As much as I love the violin, the drum solo during 'the celtic silk road' piece is what sticks out in my mind (wish I could play the violin). I would have to give them mad props for a job well done (Bo Bice still sucks donkey b@11z) . Check out Mithril's website here.

The cbot will be going in for repairs soon, I wish her well and sorry, but your upgrade is compulsary (should be read with a Cybermen tone). She will be returned to us as Cbot.2 (doctor who reference).

Coming up: ACM Mini golf trip on Saturday, Alabama football weekend in review (yes, from yours truely), Hawaiian potluck looks like it will be 10/14 @ Casey's (E-vites will be in the mail soon), and Bayfest reviews in the coming weeks. ACM's 2nd annual Fragtoberfest (get your game on).

Things on the agenda which have not been planned: Munchkin night across the bay (space or regular matters not), Who-a-thon (DVD's), and possibly another Anime night (Japanese cartoons).

Nothing to see here....move along...

I attribute my lack of posting to the lack of anything blogworthy to post about. Classes...blah, labs...blah. Went bowling with the rest of the ACM guys, I bowled a 69 and a 72. Thats pretty pathetic even for me. Then the highlight of this week was helping one of kc's friends move into an apartment. Since I didn't have anything else to do this weekend besides the Alabama game, I took to trying to tidy up my room. Which may not look like I have done much but I feel its much better now.

I need to put a couple things up on Ebay I guess since I don't really need them.

As for Alabama, I was not too impressed with the offense in the first two games. It was quite flat with the exception of a couple pass plays. The defense played pretty good but it has some minor issues too. The defense has been quite susceptible to the Utah shovel type play. In the game Saturday, the offense looked much better but I wonder if it was becasue of who they were playing or if its starting to come together. Wilson is a Sophmore and this is his first 3 games starting. Oh, they also need to stop fumbling the ball, that will definitely kill you in big games.

I watched the Auburn game before the 'Bama game. LSU did not manage the clock well on their last drive but it didn't help that Auburn benefitted from no less than 4 bad calls. LSU should have won.

The new rules in place this season dealing with the clock sucks. I watched Vanderbilt turn the ball over and the opposing team got to run the clock out without having to run a single play....but the clock had nearly one minute on it when this happened. Plus, the clock does not stop when there is a change of possession. Stupid rules Mr. NCAA honchos.

Woo i'm an Elrond

I took the survey and this is me:

Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You?

A stern yet benevolent organizer who often knows best, your wits are keenly fixed on aiding efforts you deem worthy.

Now at this last we must take a hard road, a road unforseen. There lies our hope, if hope it be. To walk into peril to Mordor.

The beginning

Well, its time for another fall television season. Tonight House starts season 3 on Fox at 7pm central. Yesterday, I spent a majority of the day watching 'Dirty Jobs' on the Discovery Channel. Very good and quite funny, many of the jobs I would never want to do (obviously).

While watching Discovery, I saw a commercial for Ted Koppel on Discovery and what they were promoting for Sunday was quite interesting and I thought it was blog worthy. He will be examining the impact of increased security measures on civil liberties. He will be speaking with current and former administration members. He will also speak with military and security to experts detail the war on terrorism. It will then be followed by a town meeting at the national war college with an audience that will include 9/11 victim's families, civil libertarians, administration officials and members of congress. Viewers can comment via email while the meeting is being held.

This will air Sunday, September 10th on Discovery Channel. I would urge you watch. While I support the 'war on terror', however I do not condone the narrowing of our civil liberties to do so. So watch and learn.

Steve Irwin

Well, if you haven't heard already, the famed Croc Hunter died today. He was shooting a new show off the coast about deadliest creatures and was hit with a barb from a stingray. Here is a youtube video link of some of the Australian news coverage, since its 10 minutes long I didn't want to embed it (link).

While many people remember him as either the crazy guy on tv flirting with crocs or the cool guy on tv playing with crocs, he was more than that. His message was conservation of the environment and animals of all kinds. He never intentionally injured any animal he worked with and even cried when one died at his Australia Zoo (link). Some people have made fun of that video but I would be the same way about Thor and I was almost that way with Bandit.

What should someone take from this? Well, he did what he was most passionate about. Creatures of all kinds. He made millions of dollars from wrestling crocs, teaching us about snakes, and doing what he loved. Then he started taking that money and pouring it into wildlife conservation. We all should be so lucky as finding what we love as enjoyable as he and his wife did.

Rest in peace, Steve 'Croc Hunter' Irwin.
