Slow Moses at Soul Kitchen
I know, I know. I haven't posted in a long time, but I will rectify that today....finally.
So, last night I went to the Slow Moses reunion show at Soul Kitchen in downtown mobile. Slow Moses disbanded in 1999, about the same time I moved to Mobile so I didn't get to see them and if I heard about them I don't remember it. But Doug told me about their reunion show coming up.
It's really hard to describe their music. The best I can describe it that sometimes its reminiscent of a Dave Matthew'ish folksy sound with hints of jazz and heavy dashes of feel goodisms.
The band is a collection of some amazing talent. Ryan Balthrop is vocals, guitar, and according to their cd jacket 'comic relief'. Molly Thomas lends vocals and violin to the sound. Chris Spies on the keyboard. Phillip Stein was tearing up the lead guitar. Ben Tenhundfeld playing the five string bass. Tracy Duarte on the huge drum set. Joe Vendetti stood in as the sound man in place of the Soul Kitchen regular. Then finally, Hurricane Horns stepped in on a couple songs. Then a couple other people came on stage to play with the band during the encore.
I cannot tell you what you missed if you were not there. Everyone was so talented and the chemistry was definitely apparent when they took the stage. But everyone seemed to have some sort of solo and each person simply shined. I cannot say which one was the most memorable because I cannot single any one out. Hopefully, Balthrop's words will hold true and they will have another concert together again, but much sooner than 8 years from now.
Sorry for the bad audio, my camera doesn't do very well recording live music. But hopefully this won't be too bad.
