Shula out....but who's in?

With the firing of Mike Shula as the head football coach at Alabama(al.com, rolltide.com, Mal Moore Statement, Shula's statement), but who will they get to replace him? Rumors are flying around like fruit flies in the middle of summer. Will it be Steve Spurrier or Nick Saban or Paul Johnson. But this is all speculation by the fans. Personally, I think Spurrier would stay at South Carolina because it is starting to turn around. Saban will stay with the Dolphins because there are four millions reasons a year for him to stay put. I'm not familiar with Paul Johnson at Navy so I cannot really comment on that one.

All I know is, Shula has done his job. He has come in and given this program four seasons of stability and four top 20 recruiting classes. He had a great season last year which would have been even better had injuries and lack of depth did not hinder the team the last few games. This season could have been much better, but I believe the loss to MSU could only have been rectified by a big win against Auburn. This did not come about obviously, thus we are where we are.

If the right coach is hired and he hires the right assistants and coordinators, we will be in the hunt again soon. With the right people in place, Alabama could be a BCS team next year and challenge for the SEC title. Then, by the next season who knows.

THE NAME OF THE BAND IS????????

Then we yell "COWBOY MOUTH!!!!!!" Last night at the Soul Kitchen was one rockin' concert for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. An intimate rockfest of great proportions. The aftermath saw both Teddy and I losing our voice but for good reason. Fred, John, Paul and Sonia really know how to fuel a crowd and have an awesome time. Doug, Teddy and myself 'let it go' and enjoyed every second of it.

Its amazing how much energy and enthusiasm Fred has and he never lets a crowd get away with not being active and yelling. I think this is a winner for best performance of the year (of my trips downtown), hands down. So, if cowboy mouth is in your area, get your buddies together, get some tickets, have some throat lozenges or something in your car and go rock out to one of the best bands ever. You always come out of one of their shows feeling good because like Fred says, "Isn't it great to be alive ya'll!!"

WHHFFFFFTTTTTTT!!!!

Ye old blog got dusty when I didn't play with her for a while. I'm back and hopefully will be full of more blogginess.

I have to say it....Vermont...you let me down. HOW can you elect a self described Socialist to congress. Also, the Democrats will control congress which hopefully will mean more gridlock and less willy nilly 'I will sign anything that comes to my desk except anything with stem and cell in the same sentence' from the President's desk.

Kinky Freidman didn't win Governor of Texas, which is a shame. I loved hearing all of his one liners so I hope he doesn't fade away. Riley wins another term here in 'bama.

Speaking of Bama, I think the offense has lost confidence in the coaching staff after the Tennessee game. How can you expect to keep their respect if you don't go for the nail-in-the-coffin touchdown on 4th and goal from inside the 1 yard line. Worst case you give them the ball back on their own 1 yard line, you flip field position pinning them back deep with a chance at a safety and the ball back IF....IF you don't score a TD. Loss to Mississippi state was an embarrassment and could seal the fate of some of the coaching staff come this off season. LSU was still a close game and showed that the offense could move the ball with the yardage they racked up against one of the best defenses in the nation but couldn't find the endzone.

Saturday, I'm making my famous taco soup for my first ever 'bama rally' on Iron Bowl Saturday. Hopefully, it will be a celebration of a brief ray of light on this season of dark and dreary Saturday's. The talent is there, if only the coaching staff was there to compliment it. The only good thing I can say though is what I have been saying all season long. Auburn is not as good as everyone thought they were and Georgia proved it, South Carolina almost did the same earlier but couldn't quite do it (trick play by Auburn). It just seems that every time Tubby opens his big mouth, his team gets embarrassed.

Last thing for the night. The Glenn Beck show on Headline News, should be a good episode and if you have time tune in and watch it on Wednesday night.
